According to the Daily Telegraph (18/10/2013), the chief executive of one of Britain’s leading abortion charities Anne Furedi, believes that women should be allowed to choose termination of their pregnancy on the grounds of gender. This emerged after British authorities refused to bring charges against two doctors who denied an abortion to a woman who wanted to terminate her pregnancy due to the gender of her unborn child. In the wake of this decision, a group of 50 MPs stated that it represented a “step-back in the fight for gender equality”. In addition, according to Anne Furedi, the decision taken by these physicians could harm the mother’s mental health, since abortion is legal in Britain.
