In April 2015, the over-the-counter sale of HIV infection self-testing kits was approved in the United Kingdom. This measure has fostered certain debate about the ethicality of this practice. A study published in the Journal of Medical Ethics (41; 809-813, 2015) concluded that there are no objective ethical difficulties for this test to become widely available in the United Kingdom, since it will facilitate more rapid diagnosis of the infection and thus reduce the possibilities of new infections.
