The first organ transplants have been performed in Hammersmith Hospital of London using organs from a newborn who died 6 days after birth. The kidneys and part of the liver were harvested.

One recipient with renal failure received kidneys, and another was given a transfusion of hepatocytes taken from the baby girl, doctors reported in the Archives of Disease in Childhood Fetal and Neonatal Edition.1 (British Medical Journal 2015; 350: h348).
