Northern Ireland, which has only 1.8 million inhabitants, has obtained an amazing 300,000 signatures requesting that the country’s current prolife legislation be maintained (continuing abortion restrictions); the legislation prohibits abortions except in cases where the mother’s life is directly endangered.
Abortion restrictions initiative
Northern Ireland parliament member Jim Wells has declared that never before have so many people taken a stance in a legislative petition. The signatures, assures Wells, represent all the postal addresses in Northern Ireland. Scottish Prime Minister Nicola Sturgeon, a major abortion supporter, has announced that the Scottish National Health Service will study the possibility of funding abortions for Northern Irish women on Scottish soil.
