Within the possibility of deriving cells from others already existing in our body, in the area of cell therapy, scientists have managed to reprogram brain astrocytes into neurons in the way to achieve brain tissue reapair. As we know, neuronal loss is thought to be definitive in neurological diseases but this has been achieved before, but using a virus, which could entail some risks for subsequent clinical use. It has now been achieved using molecular particles. According to its authors, of Pennsylvania State University, this technique could be used to brain tissue repair in neruologiacal diseases. They said “The restoration of multipotency from human astrocytes has potential in cellular reprogramming of endogenous central nervous system cells in neurological disorders.” (Read the article HERE – Cell Stem Cell, 2015).
