We recently discussed mitochondrial transfer in the United Kingdom (see HERE). On 15 December 2016, the UK Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority approved this technique to prevent the transmission of mitochondrial diseases, i.e. the technique colloquially known as the production of three-parent babies (with two mothers and one father). Although the UK is the only country where this technique is legalized, it appears that the first child created using it, was born in Mexico to a Jordanian couple treated by a US-based team. Three months after his birth, the child is developing normally. It also seems that another child has been born in China (See HERE).
