A recent article published in the American journal Advanced Intelligent Systems entitled Artificial Somatosensors: Feedback Receptors for Electronic Skins reported that artificial skin that reacts to pain emulating natural skin appears to have been produced, says Madhu Bhaskaren, senior researcher in the group that conducted the study. Manufactured skin can electronically respond (read HERE) to painful stimuli and other heat sensations. According to the authors, the possibility of developing receptors similar to those of the skin could open the door to use them in human medicine (read HERE). They affirm “The ability to design and realize manufactured skin receptors enables replacement of affected human skin regions, augment skin sensitivity for agile applications in defense and sports, and drive advancements in intelligent robotics.” further studies are necessary.
