The Swiss parliament and the federal council of government approved the measure “Marriage for all”, equating homosexual unions with established families. Switzerland had already authorized civil unions between people of the same sex since 2007. See HERE.
Same-sex couples are raised to the status of a constituted family. Marriage and family undermined
Supporters said the approval would put families on an equal footing with heterosexual couples by allowing them to adopt children and facilitate citizenship for same-sex spouses. It would also allow lesbian couples to use the hitherto banned sperm donation.
A strong debate preceded the referendum prior to its approval, which gave an advantage to the equality of the two types of unions.
Marriage and family undermined in Switzerland
Opponents argued that replacing civil unions with full marriage rights would undermine the institution of the family in Switzerland. We agree with them.
