On June 9, 2021, we published a news in our website related to the reversal of chemical abortion with mifepristone.
This practice, carried out in the United Kingdom by cardiologist Dermot Kearney and obstetrician Eileen Reilly, has been the subject of a complaint by abortion groups such as Marie Stopes International, the Royal College of Obstetricians & Gynaecologists (RCOG) and a group of activists (Open Democracy) before the General Medical Council (GMC), the body that regulates the practice of medicine in that country, for using a drug “without a license” for that specific use (see more).
However, the complaint has not prospered due to its inconsistency, so its application will allow to continue saving the lives of those babies whose mothers regret the initial decision to abort their children using abortion pills.
Dr. Kearney states that in the US more than 3,000 babies have been born between 2012 and January 2022 thanks to this procedure, without an increased risk of congenital anomalies and that the success rate of treatment is 50-70% in that country, where there is much greater knowledge of this therapy. In some states it is even mandatory for women to be informed of this possibility.
This is not the case even in the United Kingdom, where such a period of reflection does not exist, because as Dr. Kearney goes on to comment, “pregnant women who contact any of the abortion agencies are presumed to have decided that they definitely want to proceed with abortion. No counselling is offered apart from a simple questionnaire to confirm that they want to have an abortion. No alternative courses of action or alternative suggestions of support are offered”.
Following the GMC verdict, Dr Kearney is confident that other British doctors, encouraged by this result, will asume this practice and be willing to participate in providing treatment to those desperately seeking this help.
On the other hand, he also states in the interview that “the pro-life movement is growing stronger and we are slowly managing to inform the general public that options other than abortion are available to all mothers in crisis pregnancies and in difficult situations.
Great news that only confirms that the defense of life movements continue to advance in their goal of putting an end to the abominable crime of abortion, as defined by St. John Paul II.
