When assessing the success of assisted reproduction techniques, one important thing to consider is to be able to determine the likelihood of having IVF child after several stimulation cycles. A recent article evaluated this in a group of 112,549 women who started their first in vitro fertilization (IVF) treatment between 1999 and 2008.

It is important that women are aware of these birth rates following one, two or three ovarian stimulation cycles before they start IVF treatment.

The study found that 33,152 women (29.5%) had at least one live birth in their first complete cycle. After two or three complete cycles, a live birth occurred in 40.9% and 49% of cases. It is important that women are aware of these birth rates following one, two or three ovarian stimulation cycles before they start IVF treatment.
