Teen suicide prevention in the US has hopeful news
In 2018, there were more than 48,000 suicides in the United States, particularly among adolescents. In fact, suicide was the second leading cause of death in this age group after unintentional injuries. In a country in which a high percentage of people own firearms, more than half of deaths from suicide have been carried out using handguns.
A recent large study State by State published in BMJ journal (read HERE)concludes that “Policies limiting handgun purchases to people aged 21 or older were associated with a 35.5% reduction in firearm-related suicides” in adolescents. It is great news for the fight to prevent the highest cause of death in this age group.
